Kondo Yohdi; The 30th Century Boy

You all might think that posting selfies on the internet is something useless or a waste of time, but it actually can be a great opportunity of self-promotion. Kondo Yohdi is just one of the many examples of the impact that social media can have in someone’s life.

Kondo Yohdi was born on December 25th of 1992, in Osaka, Japan. When he was a high school student he started to post pictures of his every day outfits and also selfies on his Twitter account, he quickly became popular because of his unique style and within a year he reached more than 600,000 followers. A few years later he moved to Tokyo, then he started to work as a model in Harajuku and also as a TV host.

Last year he debuted as a singer with his single “Guru Gurun Sekai” and he also launched his own brand of clothes called DING.

Genderless Boy

Yohdi’s also known for having a genderless style, according to him, that means that clothes have no gender. He has state in several interviews that genderless style goes beyond the walls of sex and that people often use phrases like “that’s not feminine” or “that’s not masculine” in negative ways, making him feel sad about it because if you embrace the “gender freedom” in clothes it would be for the sake of being yourself and for expressing through style without any prejudice. He has also said that the clothes you wore not necessarily reflect your sexuality.

He has worked as a model and promoter for brands like WEGO, MILKBOY, Reebook, Candy Stripper, DING, Neon Moon, MAC Cosmetics, and others. And currently his career as a singer is raising, he recently released some other songs such as 30th Century Boy, PAN, and DaN'OIRA.

My Harajuku influences

Certainly I’ve always liked fashion and since I discovered the world of Harajuku I’ve been following and finding idols, models, trends and brands from that culture that inspire me.

It has been a few years since I first knew about Yohdi, beside his looks, I really like him because he’s very creative, has a strong view on fashion, he’s also super humble, he has great sense of humor and despite his young age he has been able to do many things! Like exploring different fields of work, and meeting or collaborate with important brands and people.

I think he’s a great because he found so many opportunities just by using social media, he let people knew what his passion was and just thought that he started his career.

I love street fashion and personally I think of Yohdi as one of my main influences because he’s super original and edgy. Every time I see his photos or the collections he releases through DING I get inspired and it keeps me kind of motivated to not to give up one of my crazy dreams that is to becoming a fashion designer that incorporates illustration into fashion.  I’d like to do clothes for casual wear to bring some originality and innovation into the Mexican fashion scene, I’d love that.
